Total Installed capacity The total installed capacity has been calculated using the DC watts-peak value specified by the solar panel manufacturer. Some systems (especially Grid-Tied/MW Installations) also have a maximum AC power rating for the system. For example a 1MWp(DC) installation may be rated as a 0.8MWp(AC) if the highest power that can be generated by the system is 800KW(AC).
Daily Energy Production Daily Energy Production of the solar system is calculated in Kilowatt-Hour based on the assumption that the average Peak Sunlight Hours (PSH) for Nigeria is 3.5 Hours
The average PSH for Nigeria is 2.5 - 6 hours depending on your location. We have conservatively chosen 3.5 hours to carter for efficiency losses in the system. See Nigeria's insolation map below for a better understanding of the amount of sunlight you should expect in your area. Also decide if the calculated value is lower or higher than what you should expect.
For the sake of simplification the tilt & orientation of solar panels in your installation were not included in evaluating the energy produced. Ideal orientation for installations Nigeria is SOUTH because we are on the northern hemisphere while the Angle of Tilt should be between 10 - 200. Battery Storage Capacity & Daily Percent Charge The battery storage capacity & daily percent charge is calculated based on the assumption that your battery still has 100% of its rated capacity and that your system is 100% efficient (i.e no losses between the solar panel & battery). The battery percent charge that has been evaluated will likely be the maximum you will get and is dependent on two primary factors.
1) The PSH at your location for that day.
2)The state of health of your battery.
CO2 Emission Reduced per year CO2 emission is the main cause of global warming which directly increases the earth's temperature. We have assumed that the amount of CO2 saved as a result of producing 1 kWh of energy through solar power is 0.6 kg. Every nation has a mix of power plants that use different energy sources, thus the value of kg CO2 will be different for each country. The actual factor for Nigeria will be lesser than 0.6 because our primary source of electricity generation is through Natural gas & Hydro.

RoofTop Area Occupied by Panels The approximate area occupied by 1KW of solar panel installation is 7m2, assuming your panels are 15% efficient. For panels with higher efficiency a smaller area will be occupied/required. This area is also based on the assumption that there are no shaded areas on your rooftop. Shade-causing obstructions will increase the amount of area that will be sacrificed for the installation of solar panels, however the actual area occupied will still be the same.
Amount saved in fuel purchase annually One (1) litre of gasoline produces a total energy of about 8.7kWh - this value is the amount of heat energy generated by combustion. Theoretically, the actual amount of electricity (electrical energy) actually generated is between 1kWh - 2kWh depending on the engine efficiency, while the remaining is used to generate heat and mechanical energy. Our approach is to rely on the practical-use case of the smallest generator (I-better-pass-my-neighbour), which is considered to be the most fuel-efficient generator.
950Va (600w) of power is generated by 0.5L of fuel per hour, so 1.2kWh is generated by one (1) litre of fuel. Cost of fuel in Nigeria @2022 is placed at ₦200
